Life with the Bs

Playroom update

We had a number of Disney (mostly princess) pictures on the walls in our playroom.  Now that Janie has outgrown the princess phase, I decided it was time to make some changes.  Sorry about the photos, it’s hard to get a good picture in a room without windows.

I’m a bad blogger; I forgot to take before pictures but found this old one.  I took the Disney prints out of the frames above and replaced them with Janie’s artwork.

We’ve also updated the hand print tree since the above picture was taken.

Playroom 023

We had a large Disney princess print above the Ikea storage unit.  I took that down and hung Janie’s canvases from art classes/parties.  I spray painted some old black plastic frames (you know the ones from the 90s that held photos like my latest instagram picture) in fun colors to frame some printables that I found on Pinterest.  I also hung a few photos.

I’m happy with the way it turned out and I’m sure I’ll be adding to it.  Hopefully we can start to get some of Nolan’s artwork on the walls soon.  You can find the printables here and here.

Bar Sign

I saw a sign on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago and I knew I had to make one.  Tim got some old barn wood from a friend so I had him brace two pieces together.  Then I got stick on letters from Michael’s and stuck those right on the wood.  I painted Modge Podge all over the wood and I stuck the dog to the Modge Podge and painted over him.  As it started to dry, I had to use a blunt edge to push bubbles out.

I love the way it turned out!

Cookie Exchange

I’ve hosted a Christmas Cookie Exchange for about 7 years (I think I missed one or two when I was pregnant or had an infant).  We had a great turnout this year.  It’s so much fun to see friends that we don’t see that often, the cookies are just an added perk!

I’ve served the same chicken salad for a past few years because everyone asks for it.  I will share the recipe soon.  We also have Apple Brandy Brew every year (in the crockpot) that makes you feel all warm inside.

Janie invites some friends and we always have a craft or project for them.  I didn’t get too creative this year since we did ice cream cone trees last year. Luckily, we only had 2 repeats and Janie was one of them.

Now if the cookies make it to Christmas, we will have our Christmas miracle.

Party, party, party

Yesterday was a party day.  First up was Janie’s class party.

Christmas 003

They made these cute little edible snowmen.  Janie’s snowman ended up with a tropical look.

Christmas 005

Next up was Nolan’s class party.  They sang songs and each child shared their favorite part of Christmas.  I was hoping that Nolan would be one of the children that would say Jesus but he said hot chocolate is his favorite part of Christmas.  Hey, at least he didn’t say presents!

Christmas 038

Then we headed to church for parties there.  I teach 1st grade and we had a birthday party for Jesus.  I read A Special Place for Santa.  This is really a great book that every Christian family should own.

We did a lot of gift cards for teacher/staff gifts this year.  I wanted to share these printables.  I just printed these on photo paper and then wrap them up with a homemade ornament and they’re so cute.

40th Birthday Ideas

We are at the stage in life where our friends are starting to turn the big 4-0.  The OLD ones, that is 🙂  I remember when my dad turned forty, his co-worker made him a poster board with candy bars.  I remember thinking that was super cool and wanted to eat the candy, of course.  I decided to see if I could find some of the wording to get me started.  I did but then couldn’t find all of the candy.  This is what I came up with for my first poster……

It’s fall

Well, not officially until Saturday but we aren’t hitting 80 degrees today so that’s fall to me!  I don’t do too much seasonal decorating but I have a few things that I put out for fall.

I made this wreath last year.

I decorate our mantel with our Halloween pictures.  I’ve made a frame for every Halloween since Janie was born.  I just buy cheap black frames when they are on sale or with coupons from Michael’s and add Halloween decorations.

2006 – Hershey’s Kiss

2007 – a black cat

2008 – Ariel

2009 – Ariel and Sebastian

2010 – Goldilocks and the Three Bears

2011 – Jessie and Woody

The kids love looking at these frames when I bring them out each year!
