Beach Trip 2014

We had a great trip to Gulf Shores!  Lots of fun on the beach.  Nolan loved the ocean this time, very different from his first visit to the beach.  We enjoyed the sand too!

We had good seafood at Sea-n-Suds.  Their hush puppies were awesome but I didn’t care for their gumbo.  Nolan ordered a corn dog and when our food came out, Janie told the best joke ever…..hush puppies meet your mom, corn dog!  After dinner, we went to hang out at the Hang Out.

We also ate at Tacky Jacks.  I got the fish tacos and they were okay.  Tim caught some salt water catfish (didn’t know there was such a thing) so the guys fried that up for lunch one day.  It was a fun trip with great friends.  Jennifer and I had our first trip of many to the beach back in 10th grade….just a few short years ago!

Summer Bucket List

We never actually made a summer bucket list but I like to think that if we did, we would have been able to cross everything off!

Road trip – We knocked this one out right away with our trip to Great Wolf Lodge.  I highly recommend it!

Bike rides, bonfires and cookouts – Check, check, and check.  Tim and Nolan have enjoyed some local mountain bike trails.  Tim said it’s both awesome and terrifying to watch Nolan ride.

Out of town visitors – We had some good friends in town a few weeks ago and more coming next week!

Beach and pool time – We’ve had lots of pool time and Nolan started swimming this summer!  We’re also making a quick trip to the beach before school starts.

Camps – The kids went to Vacation Bible School together, Janie did a sewing camp, and Nolan completed Safety Camp (they even allowed him to graduate).

T-shirt quilt

I’ve wanted to make Janie a t-shirt quilt for a long time but they can be pretty pricey.  I was going to start asking some friends and family if they would be able/interested in making one for me but this offer came up on Living Social.  The full size quilt with 30 t-shirts is only $85!  I also got 6% cash back by using Ebates.  I’m so excited to send in her shirts.  These would make a great gift for a graduate!  Tim happens to be the owner of lots of beer shirts.  Maybe I could make a lap blanket for the man cave 🙂

Our newest Godchild

My niece, Avery, was Baptized on Saturday.  Tim and I have the honor of being her Godparents.  Catholics are generally Baptized as babies to wash away original sin (the sin of Adam and Eve) but it was pretty cool to see Avery choose to be Baptized and be so excited about it!

Avery Baptism 035She was able to wear the dress that my sister wore for her First Communion.  She will be in my religious education class this year to start preparing for her First Communion next year.  I’m really excited for her and even more excited that I get to share in her journey!

Date Night

We had four tickets to the premier of Planes Fire and Rescue last night but Janie’s sick so it ended up being a date night for Nolan and I.  It’s always nice to get some one on one time with my kids so I was excited!  Although, I will admit that he’s not the greatest movie date.  I think he stepped on my toes 10 times with his sneakers, he moved from seat to my lap and back to his seat throughout the movie, and we made 3 trips to the bathroom.  The movie was very good and Nolan won a prize pack for knowing it was a sequel to Cars.

Busy Summer

I just wanted to pop in and let you know that I’m still around.  We’ve had a busy summer with friends in town, camps, ear infections that won’t go away, and a crazy workout routine for me.  I know that the fall will be busy with baseball and softball for the kids so I’m getting in shape now so I’ll be able to keep up!  I’m doing boot camp twice a week, running 2 – 3 evenings per week, and Zumba once a week.  A friend and I actually bought a Groupon for Barre classes.  I’m excited to give them a try (I think we will replace the running with them, not adding them to that crazy schedule).

We might be busy but we’re still taking time to enjoy these last weeks of summer!
