Heavy Hitter

We had a weekend full of baseball and softball.  Four games total!  They had a photographer come to one of Nolan’s games and she got some really good shots.

20140426ECB56Royals-78Nolan has really become a great hitter!  In the past 2 weeks, he has only struck out twice.  It’s funny to expect a hit now when at the beginning of the season we were praying for one.

I was able to sneak in a trip to Goodwill and bought $20 in picture frames to start filling in our gallery wall.  Thanks for all of the advice.  I’ve gotten some more pictures up and I’m looking for a big B to hang on the wall.  I will post an update soon.

Tim and I had a double date with some friends on Saturday night and Janie and I got to meet up with family that was in the area on Sunday.  Janie loves to see sweet Jacob!

Advice

Happy Friday!  I’m joining Kelly’s Korner today in Show us your Biggest Design Challenge.  I’ve wanted to create a gallery wall going up our steps but I just can’t figure out how to add to it.  Please share your suggestions….House stuff 089Also, the water line on the water dispenser on our refrigerator keeps freezing up.  We already paid to have it fixed once so I think it’s time to move on to something else.  What’s the best way to have filtered water at home?  Our kitchen faucet has a removable sprayer so we cannot get one of those filters that connect to your faucet.  Are the Brita Water Pitchers any good?

Thanks for your help!

Midweek randoms

It’s midweek already???  I’ll take it!

That rug I ordered a few weeks ago was way too small for our entryway.  I ended up putting it in the small hall going to our bathroom and guest room on the main floor.

I found a rug that I liked on MyHabit last week.  I checked the measurements on this one before ordering.

The blue is brighter than the picture that they had on the site but I think it will grow on me.

My sister-in-law and I got free tickets to a pre-screening for The Other Woman last night.  It was a cute and funny movie.  I really like Leslie Mann.

Janie got to see The Lion King at the Fox Theatre on Saturday.  I’ve been wanting to take her to a show for a long time but tickets are so darn expensive.  A friend’s family had an extra ticket and offered to take her.  She loved it and said that they were really close to the stage!

Nolan got his graduation pictures this week.  It makes me smile every time I look at it!

An Extra Special Easter

Easter is always special but it was extra special for our family this year because Tim was confirmed at the Easter Vigil on Saturday.  He and 52 others came into full communion with the church.  It was beautiful!  I’m so proud of him for committing his time to learning more about our Lord.

Easter 2014 007(The mass ended after 11pm so Nolan was sound asleep in Grandma’s arms for pictures.)

We celebrated with family on Sunday with lots of food and bike riding.  Both my nieces learned how to ride bikes!  Tim and I are the best bike riding trainers around.  Tim’s aunt gave me her bike so now we all have one.  I took a ride with the kids around my parents’ neighborhood, a perfect neighborhood for riding bikes with newbies because it’s nice and flat.  We had a really wonderful Easter!

Throwback Thursday Stories

I’m linking up with The Mom Creative today for Throwback Thursday Stories.  This was Janie’s first dance recital.  She was 3 years old.

Dance recital 015Once she saw all the parents and grandparents, stage fright set in and she did this or sat there with her fingers in her mouth the entire time.  It’s funnier when the child that freezes up belongs to someone else.  We all get a good laugh about it now though!  And thankfully she’s overcome her stage fright and now preforms with the Angel Choir at church.

Baseball and Bunnies

We had a beautiful weekend!  It was actually pretty hot and I got scolded for saying that by the cashier at Aldi.  I guess after this winter, it’s too early to say it’s hot outside.

Nolan had 3 games this weekend!  One of the dads came through in making them look like real baseball players (big wad of gum and all).

Nolan got a base hit at his game on Sunday so Nana and Papa treated him to ice cream.  Fittingly, he chose a dirt sundae after playing in the dirt in the outfield.

CAM01506We had an Easter Egg Hunt in our neighborhood.  The Easter Bunny is so strange to me.  I really don’t know what to do or how to explain that one.  Luckily, there haven’t been too many questions and we don’t put much emphasis on it.  But there he was so we took a picture.

April 008

The petting zoo was a big hit.  Janie will hold anything but Nolan is a little more hesitant (which is probably a blessing to some of the animals).

I’m hoping for a good rain today to wash away all this pollen.  Although yellow is a beautiful spring color, I would prefer not to see it all over the place.

Have a great week!

I don’t do mornings

I’m not a morning person at all.  I never have been (that I can remember).  In college, I would work the lunch shift at a restaurant and schedule classes for the afternoon/evening.  I haven’t had to use an alarm clock regularly since 2006 because I gave birth to early risers (God’s joke on me).  Thankfully, I married a man that doesn’t mind getting up early so he takes the morning shift.  He gets Janie up each morning, gets her ready, and on the bus.  Nolan usually eats with them and then comes to bed with me to snuggle and watch some TV.  That’s my kind of morning, waking to a snuggle bug with the luxury of being able to lay around for a bit.  Once I finally get moving, Nolan and I get ready and I drop him off at school and then begin my work day.

For Lent, Tim decided to go to daily mass on the mornings that they offer it at 6:30am.  Three mornings a week, I’ve had to get Janie on the bus at 6:52am.  Some mornings have been rough and I’ve been at the bus stop in my robe.  However, I’m adjusting and seeing how much I can accomplish in the morning.  This morning I practiced spelling words with Janie, worked on flash cards with Nolan, ate breakfast, showered, folded and put away two loads of laundry, stripped our beds and put the sheets in the wash, dropped Nolan off at school, and started my workday.  I haven’t even had a cup of coffee yet. I don’t do mornings but maybe I should!
