Mummy cake balls

Pumpkin patch 2013 048

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup whole wheat flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

2 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup skim milk

1 – 2 bags of white candy melts

mini chocolate chips

Combine first 3 ingredients in a bowl.  In a separate bowl, beat the sugar and butter until creamy.  Beat in the eggs and vanilla.  Add the milk and flour mixture a little bit at a time starting and ending with the flour.  Bake the cake balls in a cake ball maker for 4 – 5 minutes.  Let them cool while you melt the white candy melts, according to package.  Dip each ball in the candy melts until covered.  Add the chocolate chip eyes while they are still wet.  Reheat the candy melts and put it into a baggie.  Make a small cut in the baggie and pipe onto the cake balls.  This recipe made 36 cake balls.  One bag of candy melts was enough to cover 24 cake balls.

Ball and pumpkins

We had a nice fall weekend!  Nolan had his last baseball game of the season.  It was a 9am game and it was COLD!

Then we went to lunch with Janie’s softball team.  Nolan thinks he’s one of the big guys!

Janie got a game ball and certificate for her first season of softball.  She really learned a lot this season and wants to play again!  I’m so thankful that she found something that she enjoys.

Then we went to the pumpkin patch.  Luckily, the sun came out and warmed things up a bit.  By the looks of these pictures the sun was shinning right in Nolan’s retinas!

Free Wood Print

I really love pictures.  I’m sure that’s evident when people come in my house, there are pictures of us everywhere.  PhotoBarn is offering a free 5×7 wood print with stand through October 29th.  The coupon code is 5X7FREE.  You just pay shipping ($6.99, I think).  Here’s the picture that I ordered.  I can’t wait for it to arrive!

I love e-mail questionnaires, just ask my mother in law.  Erika posted some blog questions so here we go:

1. If you had to be on a reality TV show, which one would you choose?
Gosh, I don’t know because I would hate being on TV but if I have to pick, I guess I would say Survivor.  Not because I would win but I would like to see how far I could go.  A little weight loss wouldn’t be too bad either.
2. If you had to be on a TV game show, which one would you choose?
I love Family Feud.  I think I would be the family member to go to the finals because I’m that good!
3. If you could have a top-of-the-line, totally tricked out household appliance (just ONE!) for free, what appliance would you choose?
How about a robot that cooks, cleans, and tackles my “honey do” list.
4. What company could you be the spokesperson for?
PediaSure.  At 2 years old, Nolan was 22 lbs and not even on the weight chart.  The doctor said to try PediaSure so for the next year, we gave him a drinky, as he called them, once a day.  At his 3 year appointment, he was up to the 25th percentile in height and weight.  That stuff works!
5. Why did you start blogging?
I read blogs for many years.  They always had blog parties or link ups and I wanted to join.  It’s also a great way to document our lives and the funny things that my kids say and do.
6. Would you rather have 10 cats living inside your house or 10 dogs (mixed breeds/sizes)?
This is a hard question.  I want to say dogs because cats can be so snobby.  However, having 10 dogs running around and barking might make me crazy!  At least cats just lay around.  But then there’s the litter box situation.
7. Which Disney princess do you most identify with? Or prince. Or villain. Or goofy side-kick.
Ariel.  Because of the red hair, of course.
8. What is your most hated food item?
Strawberries.  I know it’s weird and it makes me so mad because they are in so many good things that I want to eat but won’t because they have strawberries.
9. Would you rather have a tame lion or a tame panda as a pet?
Panda for sure!
10. Did you make up fake identities to use in AOL/Prodigy/CompuServe chatrooms in the 90s?
I honestly didn’t do any online chatting in the 90s.  Maybe I was missing out!

Winning and Losing

There’s been been lots of winning and losing going on at this house!

Win – The Falcons finally got a win this weekend!

Loss – Sadly, the Dawgs didn’t come away with a win.

Win – Janie’s softball team played a one pitch tournament.  They were guaranteed two games and won the second game!  It was their first win all season.  They know how to play when it counts!

Loss – They lost their third game but we’re used to it so no biggie.  They had a lot of fun this season!

Win – Nolan got 3 hits at his game on Saturday!  He ended up with the game ball again.

Loss – See how number 1 has a different hat…..we lost his Thunders hat.  I cannot find it anywhere!  As an organized person, this is making me crazy!

Win – We went to a chili cook-off a few weekends ago.  The kids left as winners of pumpkin whoopee cushions.  So fitting!

Loss – Our chili didn’t win anything!  Back to the drawing board stove top!

Adventures in Parenting

This parenting thing can be so much fun and a real headache at the same time.  Just when you think your 7 year old is past the need to be under constant supervision, you find this…….

Yes, that is the walking Baby Alive with nail polish on her face, arms and nails.  Janie’s carpet and dresser were also in the line of fire.  On a separate occasion in the past few weeks, she and a friend were playing dress up and her friend didn’t have lipstick so they used red marker.  Yes, RED marker, on their lips.  I guess to a 7 year old brain, these sound like great ideas.

This morning, Nolan was watching Octonauts and he said, “this is my favorite one where the turtle goes the wrong way and swims in whale poop.”  I was thinking that sounded a little strange and wondered how you swim whale poop.  Is it like stepping in dog poop?  I was intrigued and had to watch.  I got a good laugh when the turtle was headed towards a whirl pool, not whale poop!

At least I can get a good laugh out of these two!  And now I know if I’m ever running low on makeup, marker works just fine and might even last a few extra days.
