Life with the Bs

Midweek Randoms

Is it really midweek already????

Janie gets to meet her teacher tomorrow!  She moved down from 3rd grade and we’ve heard great things.  I’m looking forward to meeting her!

I’ve wanted to replace the light in our kitchen for awhile now.  I had a credit at Ballard Backroom so I stopped in this week.  All lighting and accessories were 50% the lowest price.  I wanted a burlap drum shade but they didn’t have one.  However, I found the red one for $10, so red it is!

kitchenlightOur new rug arrived yesterday.  It’s a little more blue than I thought but it’s growing on me.  I will share pictures when the chaise arrives.

Janie got two pairs of new glasses yesterday.  Her eyes had changed quite a bit so I guess it’s a good thing that the dogs ate her glasses!  We pick them up next week.

I saw that Divergent is under $4 on my Nook.  I’ve heard great things but it sounds a little too much like The Hunger Games to me.  Has anyone read it?  Thoughts?

Broken Glasses and a Bare Living Room

Good morning!  We had a pretty low key weekend.  We rented Oz The Great and Powerful on Friday night for family movie night.  It’s rated PG and I thought it would hold everyone’s attention.  Not a movie for kids, at least not my kids!  They both ended up sleeping in our bed.  Those witches were pretty scary!

We have been in this house for 6 years and I’m feeling the need to change things up a bit.  I ended up selling our living room couches and rug this weekend.  We got a couch from a former coworker for $100 and I ordered a new rug and a chaise but they haven’t arrived yet.  So we currently have a pretty bare living room.

CAM00972We went to a cookout at a friend’s house yesterday.  They have two Springer Spaniel puppies.  Janie set her glasses on the table while she swam and the puppies got them.  We found them in 3 pieces with teeth marks everywhere.  Janie was pretty upset and our friends felt really bad.  Luckily, we have a spare pair and I should probably get her eyes checked before school starts anyway.  Can’t believe I will have a 2nd grader next Monday!

On a roll

My kids were on a roll with the unintentional insults yesterday!

Janie asked, “When you were a kid, what kind of stuff did you not have?  I already know electricity.”

At dinner, Nolan was getting full and said, “My belly is getting so fat, like Daddy’s.”

So I guess Tim and I are old and fat in our children’s eyes.

Happy Friday!

Deals, deals, deals

Welcome to day 3 of the commenting challenge.  Today we are blogging about recent pins or favorite tips.  I haven’t tried many pins lately but you can see a post on completed pins here.

Today, I will share my favorite thing – saving money!  I love a good deal.  I got all of this at CVS yesterday for just over $5!

CAM00961Here are some of my tips:

Ibotta – This is an app that you can download for free.  They have different offers that you can purchase at a number of stores.  Then you take a picture of your receipt, scan the barcode on your item and get money in your Ibotta account.  If you redeem 5 offers within the first two weeks of registering, you get $10, on top of the offers that you redeemed.  You withdraw money through PayPal.  I just started but already have 2 offers so just 3 more to go!

Shopathome – I love this!  I have earned $442.04 through doing my online shopping through Shopathome since 2009.  All you do is go there first, enter the store that you are looking for and get a percent back on your purchase when you link over.  We purchased our washer and dryer from Home Depot this way.  We went to the store to see what kind we wanted, came home and got the Black Friday price online with free shipping but from linking over from Shopathome, we got 6% cash back.  This came to an extra $100 off!

Swagbucks – I’ve been using Swagbucks as my search engine since 2009 as well.  I’ve received over $250 in Amazon gift cards since I started.  All you do is search!  They give you lots of other opportunities to earn Swagbucks as well – surveys, daily polls, NOSO, shopping and coupons.

I love these deal site as well – Zulily, Groupon and MyHabit (you can use your Amazon gift cards from Swagbucks at MyHabit).

Books and TV shows

Today for the commenting challenge, we are talking about TV shows and books that we enjoy.  I used to be a reality TV junkie but I have fallen off of the bandwagon.  There are only so many seasons of American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor that you can watch before they all start to look the same.  I only one that I watch now is The Voice.  I really liked Shakira on it last season.  We’ll see how it goes when they bring this team back together.

Tim and I like Mad Men, although I think this last season was a little disappointing.

We also like Homeland.  I cannot wait for the new season!

And I enjoy Parenthood.

As far as books go, I’m just finishing one of the craziest books ever.  It’s gives total insight into Scientology and it’s scary!  It’s a really good read.  I only have a few chapters left and can’t wait to get back to it.

I also love Emily Giffin books.  And the Bible, I happen to be pretty fond of the Author.

Penicillin, Pool and Popsicles

Today is brought to you by the letter P 🙂  Nolan had an allergic reaction to penicillin this weekend.  His eyes and lips swelled.

CAM00949We just took him up the pharmacy and they replaced it with something else that I haven’t heard of.  So far so good though!

Since we couldn’t go tubing, we headed to the pool.  The kids got to use the airplanes that Nolan got from my parents for his birthday.  Nolan used this as rest time.

CAM00952We went to a friend’s pool on Sunday and Janie jumped off the diving board!  We were so proud of her!  Not only would she jump off the diving board, instead of taking the easy route to the ladder, she would swim across the whole pool to the shallow end.  Popsicles for everyone!

CAM00953We also had a double date night with friends, got a new couch (more on that later) and went school supply shopping.  I got Janie a super cute backpack for $2.99, score!

Anyone here from Jenna’s Journey, welcome!  You can find out more about us at the About Us page.  Hope you stick around!

Summer Strep

Who gets strep throat in the summer???? Nolan does!  It’s so weird, I picked him up from school on Tuesday and he had a rash on his arms and legs.  I took him back into school to see if they noticed it and they said that it must be from something outside.  He and a friend were playing in the leaves so that must have been it.  I gave him some Benadryl and the rash was mostly gone by Wednesday.

Yesterday, I picked him up from school and he said that his neck hurt.  He said that he couldn’t put his head back….weird!   I figured maybe he did something to it.  We came home and he said that his tummy hurt so he laid on the couch.  Then he came to sit with me and he was burning up.  We headed to the Minute Clinic… thankful that we have one up the street!  And sure enough, he has strep.  Then it all started to come together, he had the strep rash and kids sometimes say that their neck hurts, instead of their throat.

As long as Nolan is feeling up to it tomorrow and the weather holds up, we are planning to go tubing.  With the weather we’ve had this summer, that’s a gamble!
