The adult onesie

Tim and I went the movies last week.  As I was standing in line at the concession stand (you can’t go to the movies with popcorn), I noticed a teen wearing high waist jean shorts.  The girl pulled them off, she was probably 17, not much she couldn’t pull off.  She had a tight tank top tucked into the jean shorts and I thought about how it would be hard to tuck something in to those shorts.  Then I had to question if it was a bodysuit, because that’s what I would have worn under my high waist jeans in the early 90s.  My next thought was…..of course bodysuits aren’t coming back.  Would anyone over the age of 12 months want to wear a onesie, I think not!

To my surprise, I found this hanging on the rack at Target this weekend.

CAM00798The adult onesie is making a comeback!  Or maybe not since it was the clearance rack.  But it was the only one that I saw so I assume they sold a few.  And what do you wear under a shear onesie???

Long weekend

We had a nice long weekend.  We got to see lots of friends (old and new), cleaned the house from top to bottom and got in some pool time.  I was pretty sick of cookout food by yesterday though.

Here’s our weekend in cell pictures….

Janie had a grapeade stand on Saturday morning.  She made over $4!

Nolan and I ran out to do a little shopping.  He saw this rock in the parking lot and asked me to take his picture on it.  This boy knows a photo op when he sees one!

What, this isn’t how you play cornhole?

This was the water balloon toss at the a cookout that we were at.  So much fun!

School’s Out for Summer

Last day of 1st grade 027

We started a tradition on our street of soaking the kids with water guns, water balloons and silly string on the last day of school.  It’s a lot of fun for the kids and parents!

Summer for a work at home mom can be pretty challenging.  We do as many camps and play dates as we can.  I hate that we can’t hang at the pool or go do fun things during the day.  We decided that Janie must do one educational thing and one chore each day.  I made a list of things that she can choose from.  When I showed it to her, she said that this is the worst summer ever.  I guess we can only go up from here!

First and Last Day

It’s the last day of 1st grade!

1st and last day pictures starting with 1st grade……

1st grade KindergartenPreKI love seeing how much she grew each year!  She always looks like a teenager to me by the end of the year.

We get to start these with Nolan as he starts PreK in the fall.  I just bought him shorts in the same pattern as the jumper that Janie has on in her PreK picture…..too cute!  I am definitely pro uniform.

Confidence in Motherhood

I’m linking to Kelly’s Korner today for the Build Em Up Series.  Today’s topic is confidence in motherhood.  There are so many choices that come with being a parent….

disposable or cloth diapers

breast or bottle fed

working mom or stay at home mom

swaddle or no swaddle

schedule or let the baby lead the way

spank or time out

And the list could go on!  That’s a lot of choices and you don’t even know this person.  I don’t think parenthood needs to be so black and white.  Kids need structure but they are also pretty adaptable.  I know every time we made a BIG change…..moving from the bassinet to the crib, first time going to bed without nursing, moving from the crib to toddler bed…..Tim and I were so worried about how it was going to go and expected the worst.  Well, guess what, it wasn’t such a BIG change for my kids.  We were shocked when they just went with the flow.  There were a few tears on occasion but it wasn’t the horrible night that we were fearing.

I don’t think you need to put yourself in one camp or the other.  Try different things.  See what works with your family.  When it doesn’t work anymore, change it up.  I still haven’t figured some things out and my kids are 7 and 3.  Consistency is key but it doesn’t make sense to keep doing something that isn’t working for you.

Last Game

I cannot believe that this is the last week of school!

We had a good weekend.  Janie went to a birthday party on Saturday morning.  We had to leave before they headed to Build a Bear because we had to get to Nolan’s last baseball game.  I wasn’t too disappointed about not bringing another stuffed animal into our house.  It seems like we have them everywhere and Janie can tell me why each one is special so her so I can argue, even though I only see her with it after it “almost” makes it to the Goodwill bag.

This big guy got to meet us at the game.  We were so happy to see Jacob!  His mom was picking up our stroller.  That was pretty much the last of the baby stuff….kinda sad but so happy that we can pass it on!

May 2013 020Nolan had fun at his last game.  Here are the things that I think he picked up the season:

  • It’s really cool how they can make white dirt on the field.
  • It’s fun to put dirt in your hat, glove, shoes and pants.
  • When you have a bat, you must swing when a ball is coming at you.
  • When people yell, you should run somewhere.
  • You stand with your hands on your knees and then run to the ball no matter where it goes.  Whoever gets the ball wins the game.
  • After the game, you put your hand out and walk by the other team.
  • The best part of the game is the snack and drink that you get at the end.

baseballHe was super excited about his trophy.  I’m proud of our little ball player!
